This post is part of a series introducing the team behind KAWO that keep the fire burning and the engine turning.
Q: How long have you worked at KAWO and what is your role?
A: I’ve been working at KAWO for the past 15 months. I started out as an intern writing content for the blog, but over time I became more interested with design and development. This led to me transitioning into my current role as a Front End Developer.
Q: Tell us a little about yourself and life outside of work?
A: Well, I moved to Shanghai about 18 months ago, so much of my time outside the office is spent trying to wrap my head around Mandarin, but beyond that I spend a lot of time reading and exercising. I’m not adverse to the occasional (re: frequent) beer on Yongkang Lu.
Q: What are five words that describe you perfectly?
A: Practical, observant, assertive, cynical and jovial.
Q: Can you tell us what you like about the working day at KAWO?
A: I’ve definitely found that working closely with teammates in a fast paced environment is extremely rewarding. I also very much enjoy abusing the coffee machine and humiliating my co-workers on the mini basketball hoop we have in the office.
Q: What are some of the funnest/most challenging projects you’ve worked on while at KAWO?
A: Redesigning the landing page for the new version was definitely the most challenging project I’ve worked on with KAWO to date. Trying to lean heavily toward new features you spend months developing, while still making our goals and value clear to users who’ve never heard about the product before is always a difficult balance to achieve and maintain.
Q: What’s your most memorable (funniest) experience at KAWO?
A: We had a company retreat to Thailand back in January, and it was outstanding. It was nice to get some time away from the office with the team and bond over all the craziness that Bangkok has to offer.
Q: Tell us something people might not know about you
Not much to tell really, I’m essentially an open book, if you have a question you would like answered just shoot me a message on twitter @jordan_fergus
Q: You’re a new addition to a crayon box. What color would you be and why?
#E74748 – this is basically the only color I use on a daily basis. KAWO red is just etched in my brain.
Q: If there was a movie produced about your life, who would play you and why?
As much as I’d love to say I’d be played by Matthew McConaughey, Edward Norton, and other renowned performers in the upper echelon of acting, I’m a realist so I’d probably be played by someone more along the lines of Jesse Eisenberg if we’re basing this on physical build and ability to rock a green hoodie. Not to mention, his performance in ‘The Social Network’ was outstanding.
Q: What do you like best about working at KAWO?
Because we’re a small company, we’re constantly encouraged to try new things, tackle an existing problem in different ways, and generally just think outside the box. It’s an exciting environment to work in because there’s always something going on and always a new angle to consider.
Fergus Jordan is a Front End Developer for KAWO and hails from Vancouver, Canada.
